Hackathon Gwalior vol-1

As the scrollback family is growing day by day. We at scrollback doing great stuff and the latest example of this is Scrollback app. Which was recently launched, So as the part of the Scrollback Community we at Scrollback community Gwalior took initiative to test the app between our community members.

The event started late in the evening with the community members following a fixed agenda decided by us before the event during planning.

Agenda:-

1. Installing the app.
2. Initial boot and RAM compatibility of app. 
3. Sign up feature. 
4. Sign up with different mode. 
5. Creating Chat room. 
6. Using existing chat room. 
7. Switching between chat room. 
8. Chat response of the app. 
9. Setting feature.
10. exiting app.

The started with great enthusiasm with most of the participants getting to scrollback channel before the specified timing. Then gradually we got lots of scrollbackers joining us we started the event by following the above mentioned agenda.

Initially i told them to install the scrollback app from the google store using the link.

I told them to closely follow the performance of the app on various devices as most of them were using android devices of different configuration. The app worked quite well on most of the devices the starting time was also very short.

The amazing thing was that we had participants from different location like kolkata and hyderabad also. As the hackathon got momentum we moved to other point in the agenda like device compatibility, and it worked on almost all the devices.

Then the sign up feature was tested and we saw that it was smooth signing up through different mode like.

• Google
• Facebook
• E-mail

Other features like creating chat room, using existing chat room and switching between chat room and other cool features of scrollback.

The passed all most the parameters and the hackathon ran for 3 hours with all the bugs filed on the pad created specially for event.
Participants had great time while exploring more about the app and its feature.

Buddies meet 1.0

The Buddies meet was a great success with lost of planning and responsibilities. My "Army Of Awesome" that is the energetic campus buddies were on time to join me in the meet up. The meeting started sharp 9 pm with lots of questions in the mind of curious campus buddies and at the same time lots of plans in my mind.
As the meet started i interacted with each of them and asked the new buddies about scrollback to check their level of understanding of scrollback. They explained it very well and asked me few very obvious questions which i was expecting to be asked by them. Like 

• What is MLP?
• How to embed scrollback to your website?
• How to contribute in code base etc.

After all this i started telling all of them about various field in which they can contribute and how they can get benefited with it.
I have divided them in various team and assigned them tasks like:-
  

1. Graphics team.
2. Writing team.
3. Social media team.

Then i gave briefing about how to perform and complete these tasks and deadline to complete those task. The participants were so excited to contribute and complete their task which could be seen through their chats on our official scrollback chat room.

And in the last session we planned about future events. The participants were so excited to hear that our community is performing so well and we have got community super star badge.

 

Overall it was a productive session with solid outcomes for future contribution by buddies from Gwalior.

"My experiences with Scrollback"

Hello friends I want to share my experiences with scrollback in this last month. My journey with scrollback started with just a simple post on social networking site Facebook which says join Scrollback campus ambassador program. I explored about Scrollback on all the resources available online and applied for this program. Then started my journey to be part of this awesome open source organization. 

Then the day came when i got to know about that i am the part of the fifty scrollback campus ambassador from India. The first meeting was really a great experience when i got to interact directly with the team of scrollback specially Gaurav sir and Priyanka. This show the height of professionalism and seriousness the organization is putting towards this program. The meeting continued for almost 2 n half hr which covered the whole structure of the scrollback chat service and the team behind this.

As days passed the program got more matured with different level introduced in it like Scrollback campus buddies, Scrollback campus ambassador, Scrollback mentor and the leader. Which provide motivation to the team member to work hard to raise up in the ladder and get more recognized.

 

I started buzzing about this program in my college with my friends and juniors. They started appreciating the whole idea behind this program and showed their interest to be part of this then i shared this link with the to get registered for the program:-

register yourself for campus buddies.

I got a great response and was ready with my first set of scrollback enthusiast who were ready to contribute and spread the word of scrollback. I organized an orientation program for them were we covered all the thing required to be known by any scrollbacker like:-

• What scrollback is?
• Technologies used by it.
• what is open source?
• About scrollback campus ambassador program
• Ways to contribute.
• How to raise up in the hierarchy of scrollback program.

 The participants were too good and interactive they understood the whole program well and were looking determined to contribute to the best of there ability.

The best part of this program is it appreciate you hard work and my first appreciation was the tag of "Scrollback campus ambassador of the month" which was really over whelming for me. I got my scrollback campus ambassador badge to which provide me inspiration to contribute more and work hard.... :)

What is scrollback???

Scrollback is a beautiful, open source text chat service designed for communities. Scrollback chat rooms can be embedded in websites and linked with Twitter hashtags or IRC channels. It is written in Node.js and its source code is open on Github which can be access easily and peoples around the globe can contribute to it.

This was originally incubated in Bangalore August 2012 by Gaurav and Aravind. It moved from a community based chat service to an amazing chat service in the year 2013.

Few features which makes Scrollback unique.

• Scrollback can be linked with IRC channels 
• Scrollback chat room can be easily linked with Twitter handle and various hashtags.
• It uses Artificial Neural network so that all the conversations can be achieved easily and can be shared as link on web.
• It also provides ability to the user to search messages through keywords.
• Logging inis super easy just log-in through your FB or persona account. :)
